Wilkes Baseball Finishes Spring Trip with 11-4 loss to Northwestern (MN)
FORT PIERCE, Fl. – The Wilkes University baseball team finished its spring break trip to Florida with an 11-4 defeat to University of Northwestern on Friday afternoon.
The Colonels are now 5-6 on the season.
Northwestern got on the board in the bottom of the second, scoring one run on one hit, and pushed its lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third with five runs on two hits and two errors.
Wilkes got on the board in the top of the fourth, scoring one run on two hits and one error. Junior
Joe Champi (Dupont, PA/Pittston) led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch before junior
Jarret Clymer (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom)'s rbi groundout brought him home.
Northwestern added to its lead in the bottom of fifth with two runs on three hits to push the score to 8-1.
The Colonels began their comeback attempt in the top of the sixth with three runs on two hits and two errors. Sophomore
Sam Eyler (York, PA/West York) started with a one-out single to centerfield and advanced on an error off the bat of sophomore
Matt Dacey (Mountaintop, PA/Holy Redeemer). Freshman
Matt Reinert (Telford, PA/Souderton) stepped up next and reached on a two base error with Dacey reaching third and Eyler scoring. Freshman
Tyler Walther (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) followed with a run-scoring single to center and Reinert came in to score on a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore
Jorge Gonzalez (Reading, PA/Conrad Weiser) to cut the deficit to 8-4.
Northwestern finished the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with three runs on one hit.
Sophomore
Noah Durnin (Bath, PA/Northampton) took the loss, surrendering six runs (four earned) on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

James Brown (Covington, PA/North Pocono), Walther, Gonzalez, and junior
Dan Eicher (Massapequa Park, NY/Kellenberg) each had one hit for the Colonels.
Wilkes returns to the field on Wednesday when it travels to Penn State-Schuylkill for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game.
