Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Defeated 9-5 at Alvernia

READING, Pa. – Alvernia University outscored the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team 6-3 in the second half en route to a 9-5 defeat on Saturday evening.

The Colonels are now 3-5 on the season.

Wilkes jumped out in front first when freshman Connor Daly (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) scored unassisted with 11:20 left in the first quarter.

The Crusaders followed with three consecutive goals to jump out 3-1.

Sophomore Matthew Bush (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) ended the run with an unassisted goal with 44 seconds left until halftime.

Alvernia scored the first goal of the third quarter to take a 4-2 lead with 14:02 left in the third quarter.

Sophomore JT Weitzel (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) answered with an unassisted goal with 13:30 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 4-3.

After a Crusaders goal, junior Matt LaSorsa (Copiague, N.Y./Copiague) scored with an assist from sophomore John Wink (Glenside, Pa./Abington) to make the score 5-4 with 3:02 remaining in the third.

???????Alvernia scored two straight goals to take a 7-4 lead.

Sophomore Max Brown (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) finished the scoring for the Colonels with an assist from junior Jeremy Kachel (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) to cut the deficit to 7-5 before the Crusaders added two more goals to
reach the final score.

Freshman Carter Whittemore (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) made 16 saves in the game.

Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to King's for its 7:00 p.m. MAC Freedom opener.
