EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting FDU-Florham outscored Wilkes University 8-2 over the second and third quarter on way to an 11-4 MAC Freedom victory Friday night at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes finished its 2017 season with a 4-11 overall record and a 1-5 MAC Freedom mark collecting the first win and league win since the program's rebirth one season ago.
 
Wilkes took an early lead scoring the game's first goal when Nicholas Ruggiero (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) found the back of the net off an assist from Matt LaSorsa (Copiague, N.Y./Copiague) three minutes into the first quarter. FDU-Florham answered scoring three straight to take a 3-1 lead early in the second quarter. Matthew Bush (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) raced around the net putting a shot past the Devils keeper to cut the FDU-Florham lead to 3-2 with 11:56 left in the half. Another three unanswered goals from FDU-Florham gave the visitors a 6-2 advantage at the break.
 
FDU-Florham scored the first four goals of the third quarter to extend the lead to 10-2 with 6:02 left in the frame before a strike from Wilkes' John Wink (Glenside, Pa./Abington) ended the scoring in the third off a helper from John Luna (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center).
 
John Luna (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) finished off the Colonel scoring notching a man-up goal off a Jeremy Kachel (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) assist with 3:44 remaining on the clock.
 
Cody Geidel (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) started and played two quarters making six saves in net for Wilkes. Carter Whittemore (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) entered in relief playing the final two quarters finishing with three stops.
 
Prior to the start of the game Wilkes' two senior players, Sean Grundy (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) and Woodly Augustin (Hewlett, NY/Hewlett) were honored for their hard work and dedication to the program.
