Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Suffers 11-6 Defeat at Delaware Valley
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's lacrosse team suffered an 11-6 defeat at Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action.
The Colonels are now 3-7 overall and 0-2 in MAC Freedom play.
Delaware Valley started the game scoring five consecutive goals.
Wilkes ended the run with two goals, one by sophomore
John Wink (Glenside, Pa./Abington) man-up with 9:37 remaining in the second quarter and again by Wink unassisted with 4:46 until halftime to cut the deficit to 5-2.
The Aggies pushed their lead to 6-2 with an unassisted goal at 4:17 before junior
Nicholas Ruggiero (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) scored with an assist from sophomore
Matthew Bush (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) with 3:55 left in the second quarter.
Delaware Valley finished the second and third quarters on a 4-0 run to push its lead to 10-3.
The Colonels fought back with three goals in the final quarter. Sophomore
JT Weitzel (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) scored with an assist from junior
Jeremy Kachel (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) at 14:45, Wink scored unassisted at 4:49 before freshman
John Luna (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) registered an unassisted tally with 1:51 left in the game.
Freshman
Carter Whittemore (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) made ten saves over the first 45 mintues while freshman
Cody Geidel (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) registed five saves over the final 15.
Wink led Wilkes with three points on three goals. Kachel, Weitzel, Luna, Bush, and Ruggiero each registered one point.
The Colonels return to the field on Wednesday when they host Misericordia for a 4:00 p.m. MAC Freedom game.
