Four Score in 5-0 Wilkes Men's Soccer Win at Valley Forge

PHOENIXVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University Men's Soccer team began a four-game road trip with a bang on Tuesday by taking a 5-0 victory over the University of Valley Forge. Michael Piranian earned his first road win in his first chance as head coach of the Colonels.

It didn't take long for Wilkes (2-1) to crack the scoreboard. Just 49 seconds into the game Camry Huff (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) scored his fourth goal of the season. Then freshman Danny McGinley (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley) scored his first career goal to put the Colonels up by two at the 9:01 mark of the first half.

Wilkes recorded 13 shots in the first 45 minute period while only conceding two Valley Forge (0-3) shot attempts.

The Colonels widened the lead early in the second half when sophomore Cole Hefner (East Greenville, PA/Southern Lehigh) netted his first career goal in the 48th minute. Freshman Jeffrey Eager-Heffner (Blandon, PA/Fleetwood Area) would then join McGinley and Hefner as first-time Wilkes goal-scorers when he found the net in the 55th and 57th minutes to widen the Wilkes lead to 5-0.

At the 90 minute whistle, Wilkes outshot Valley Forge by a count of 30-4 and held the 14-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Colonels also held a 10-1 lead in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) made three saves to record his first shutout of the year and the fifth of his career. Bryan Ardon made nine saves for the Patriots.

Wilkes continues its non-conference road trip when they face Moravian College at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9 in Bethlehem, Pa.
