Wilkes Women's Basketball Falls at Misericordia
DALLAS, Pa. – The Wilkes University women's basketball team fell by an 89-33 final at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa. on Wednesday evening in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action.
The Lady Colonels are now 4-14 overall and 0-7 in conference.
Misericordia jumped out to the first lead, starting the game on an 11-2 run through the first five-plus minutes. The Cougars maintained a double-digit advantage as the first quarter ended with Misericordia in front 20-9.
The Cougars started the second quarter on a 6-0 run that was halted by an
Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) jumper to cut the deficit to 26-11 with 8:32 on the clock. Misericordia ended the half on a 27-4 run and entered halftime up 53-15. Alfano paced the Lady Colonels in the first half with six points and two rebounds while
Maddie Kelley (Dallas, PA/Dallas) added five points and three rebounds.
Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) started Wilkes off with the first basket of the second half on a nice up-and-under layup just seven seconds into the third quarter.
The Lady Colonels began the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run on two
Catey McFadden (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) layups and two
Vanessa Whitecavage (Shenandoah, PA/Marian Catholic) free throws. Misericordia did not relinquish its advantage the remainder of the way.
The Lady Colonels were led by Kelley, who finished with eight points and five rebounds. Alfano added six points and two rebounds.
Misericordia was led by Quintessa Zamolyi's 13 points and six rebounds. Japriya Carroll (11 points, six rebounds), Brenna Karnish (10 points, six rebounds, three steals), and Emma Hayes (10 points, eight rebounds) all finished in double-figures.
Wilkes returns to the floor on Saturday when it will host Delaware for a 1:00 p.m. MAC Freedom contest.
