Wilkes Men's Soccer Downed at Eastern
ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team was defeated 5-1 at Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) foe Eastern University on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels are now 7-5-1 overall and 2-2 in conference.
Wilkes found itself down a player early when keeper
Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) was assessed a red card for taking down an offensive player as the last defender in the 29
th minute.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the 35
th minute and added a second tally in the 41
st minute as the first half ended with Eastern leading 2-0.
After the Eagles went up 3-0 in the 58
th minute,
Shane Henehan (Bensalem, PA/Mast Community Charter School) cut the deficit with a double assist from
Cole Hefner (East Greenville, PA/Southern Lehigh) and
Gabriel Crowley (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) in the 71
st minute.
Eastern finished the scoring with goals in the 73
rd and 76
th minutes.
Stephen Johnson (Bear Creek Twp, PA/Coughlin) made four saves over the final 61:40 in net.
Wilkes returns to the pitch on Wednesday when it will host Misericordia University for a 7:00 p.m. home game at Schmidt Stadium.
