Wilkes Women's Soccer Pushes Win Streak to Four with 5-0 Shutout at Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, PA – Emily Wirth (Vestal, NY/Vestal) scored two goals in the highest offensive output of the season as the Wilkes University women's soccer team earned its fourth straight win after posting a 5-0 shutout at Eastern University in MAC Freedom play Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes moved to 7-4-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league play following the road victory. Eastern dropped to 5-8-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference matches after suffering the home defeat.

Jessica Egan (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) struck first for Wilkes taking a pass from her sister Emily from right of the box and kicking home a shot to the left back of the net just 3:49 into the match.

Wirth notched the first of her two goals in the 26th minute blasting a shot from outside the right of the box hitting the back top left of the goal to push the Colonels lead to 2-0. Wirth then ended the half with another goal, this time a laser from the left top of the box that beat the Eagles keeper.

Allison Peet (Sayre, PA/Sayre) kept the Wilkes offensive outburst going in the second half scoring off a cross from Tatiana Mancera (Miami, FL/Archimedean Upper Conservatory) at the 63:19 mark. Kayla Lopez (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) then finished off the Wilkes scoring in the match with a shot in front of the goal thanks to a pass from Lauren Esser (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff) that set her up on the Eastern doorstep with under 18 minutes left.

Wilkes dominate play throughout outshooting Eastern 19-4 in the contest. The Colonels earned nine corner attempts and held Eastern without any corner chances.

Samantha Cecere (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was not tested much in the Wilkes goal recording her third shutout of the season.

Wilkes hosts local rival Misericordia University Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. for a matchup of the top two teams in the MAC Freedom.
