Wilkes Women's Volleyball Falls 3-0 at DeSales
CENTER VALLEY, PA – The Wilkes University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to MAC Freedom leader DeSales University Tuesday night at Billera Hall. DeSales took the match by scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-19.
Wilkes dropped to 16-10 overall and 1-5 in conference matches following the road defeat. DeSales improved to 18-7 overall and remains atop the league at a perfect 6-0.
After DeSales cruised to an opening set win, Wilkes responded with a good start to the second set.
Michele Natale (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) tied the match at 14 all when she put home a kill off a set from
Karlye Huffman (Sugar Run, PA/Wyalusing). DeSales took the next three points before a kill from
Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley) brought Wilkes to within two at 20-18. From there the Bulldogs took five of the next seven points to push the advantage to 2-0.
DeSales opened the third set with a 5-1 lead and never looked back on way to the match-clinching 25-19 win.
Mikovich finished with a match-high 13 kills and 13 digs for her 16
th double-double of the season.
Alex Ferrier (Cressona, PA/Blue Mountain) followed with eight kills and seven digs. Huffman topped the passing game with 31 assists on Wilkes' 35 kills.
Wilkes returns to non-conference play Thursday hosting Bryn Athyn at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
