Three Straight Goals Down Wilkes Field Hockey at Misericordia
DALLAS, Pa. – After Lauren Shipplet's eighth-minute goal tied the score at one, Misericordia University scored three unanswered goals to defeat the Wilkes University field hockey team's Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) finale in Dallas on Wednesday evening.
The Colonels finish the regular season 4-3 in conference and 8-9 overall.
Misericordia got the scoring started in the fourth minute.
Shiplett evened the score right at the eight-minute mark on a penalty corner following the entry pass from
Zoe Stepanski (Dallas, PA/Dallas).
The Cougars went on to tally points in the 24
th, 41
st, and 42
nd minutes to put the game away.
After Misericordia's second goal,
Cheyenne Mazzocca (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) found herself with a golden opportunity to tie the score in the 26
th minute when her shot beat the Cougar's goalkeeper, but a defender was there to keep the ball out of the cage.
The Colonels return to action on Wednesday for the semifinals of the 2018 MAC Freedom tournament when they travel to No. 2 DeSales University with the start time to be determined.
