Wilkes Men's Swimming Begins Season 3-0 with Home Victory
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's swimming team defeated Immaculata University 158-25 on Saturday afternoon at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center. The Colonels won all but one of the 11 events at the meet.
The victory extends the Colonels win streak to three, continuing the best start since the program's rebirth in 2014-2015. The loss drops the Mighty Macs to 0-2 on the young season.
Trey Harloff (Apex, NC/Apex Friendship) led Wilkes with three victories while
Joseph Antolick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) and
Jared Byrne (Pequea, PA/Penn Manor) each added two.
Timothy Sechler-Stone (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) also won twice for the Colonels, both coming in the relay events.
Wilkes started the afternoon by taking first and second place in the 200 medley relay with the team of Sechler-Stone, Harloff,
Shane Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and Antolick finishing with a time of 1:44.52 to earn Wilkes 11 points.
Harloff would rack up two more wins in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle. His time of 2:05.35 set the program record in the 200 IM.
Wilkes took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle as Antolick earned first place with a time of 1:55.14, followed by
Ziyad Khafagy (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) and
Daniel Mack (Hanover, PA/New Oxford) to earn the Colonels a total of 16 points.
Byrne bested three teammates in the 50 freestyle to pick up his first win of the day before following that up by beating another trio of Colonels in the 100 freestyle to walk away with two first-place finishes for the day.
Connor Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) cruised to a win in the 1000 freestyle, finishing in 11:02.61.
Tyler Weatherby (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) got the best of Brought in the 100 breaststroke, defeating his teammate by nearly two seconds with a time of 1:08.68
Nick Martino (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) would win a tightly contested 100 butterfly over Miller, taking the top spot by .08 hundredths of a second with a time of 58.46.
The Colonels ended the day by capturing the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Khafagy, Sechler-Stone,
Shawn Shaw (Athens, PA/Athens) and Mack swimming past Immaculata with a time of 1:38.95.
Wilkes men's swimming remains home on November 3
rd for a 1:00 p.m. meet against Dickinson College at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center.
