Wilkes Women's Swimming Wins Home Opener
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's swimming team defeated Immaculata University 122-37 on Saturday afternoon at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center.
With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-1 on the season while the Mighty Macs fall to 0-2.
Wilkes had a trio of triple winners in Morgan Williams (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) and Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville).
The Colonels started the day by taking the 200 medley relay with the team of Williams, Keating, Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville) and Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover) finishing with a time of 2:04.81 to earn their team 11 points.
Williams would follow that up by winning the 200 freestyle (2:11.92) before closing her day by taking first-place in the 500 freestyle (5:54.92).
Keating won the 200 IM by almost seven seconds with a time of 2:21.49 before running away with the 100 backstroke (1:07.81).
Turnitza (29.01) edged out teammate Julia Rostron (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) (30.47) for the victory in the 50 freestyle before beating another teammate, this time Detweiler, in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.24.
The Colonels would end the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Turnitza, Rostron, Brianna Sailor (Philadelphia, PA/Milton Hershey) and Kayla Gronkowski (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) finishing with a time of 2:08.95 to beat Immaculata's relay team (2:13.00).
Wilkes women's swimming returns to the pool on Saturday, November 3rd when it welcomes Dickinson College to the Wyoming Valley Catholic Center for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
