Late Goal Sends Albright into ECAC Finals with 2-1 Win Over Wilkes Women's Soccer

WESTMINSTER, MD – Albright College's Diza Hasanaj headed home the game-winning goal with less than seven minutes left to propel the Lions to a 2-1 victory over Wilkes University in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Tournament Saturday afternoon at Gill Stadium.

Wilkes concluded the 2018 season with an 11-8-2 overall record, the second consecutive year with 10+ wins.

Haley Evans (Deptford, NJ/GCIT) put the Colonels on the board first when she curved a corner kick into the goal at the 3:38 mark of the first half. Wilkes kept the pressure on the Albright defense throughout the first half taking the 1-0 advantage into the break.

The Lions answered six minutes into the second half when Jillian Lapidus found the back of the net tying the game at 1-1 and setting up the dramatic ending for Albright. The teams went scoreless until Hasanaj headed in the game-winner off an assist from Autumn Bieber at the 83:55 mark sending the Lions into the championship match tomorrow.

Wilkes held a 14-8 shot advantage with nine coming on goal. Samantha Cecere (Batavia, NY/Batavia) finished with two saves in net for the Colonels.
