Wilkes Women's Swimming: Diamond Invitational Day One Recap
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes University women's swimming team sits in seventh place after the first day of competition at the Diamond Invitational hosted by King's College. Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) picked up a win for the Colonels in the 200 IM.
Results
Wilkes started the day by taking fifth out of 17 teams in the 200 Freestyle relay with the team of Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville), Morgan Williams (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover) and Keating finishing with a time of 1:46.71 to earn their team 28 points.
Williams would pick up another fifth place finish, this time out of 39 swimmers, in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:34.70 to capture 14 points for the navy and gold.
The Colonels win came in the 25 person 200 IM as Keating bested the competition with a time of 2:16.66 to secure 20 points for her team.
Keating would back that up with a third-place finish in the 400 IM to add another 16 points to Wilkes total. She also set the Wilkes 100 Backstroke record with a time of 1:04.77 during the opening leg of the 400 Medley Relay.
Wilkes returns to the Wyoming Valley CYC on Sunday at 10 a.m. for the final session of the competition.
