Wilkes Women's Swimming Finishes Seventh at the Diamond Invitational
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes University women's swimming team placed seventh of nine teams at the 2018 Diamond City Invitational hosted by King's College after the completion of the two-day event at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center. The finish was the best for the women's team at the annual event since the program rebirth in 2014.
The Colonels earned 237 total points including 80 points during Sunday's Session III events.

Wilkes entered today's action in seventh place with 157 points after a successful day one where
Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) set the program's 100 Backstroke record leading off the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 1:04.77 and won the 200 IM event.
Keating kept her good weekend going with a third place finish in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:19.65 to earn 16 points. She also swam the first leg of the 400 Freestyle Relay where, along with
Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville),
Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover) and
Morgan Williams (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), the Colonels finished sixth of 16 teams to earn 26 points with a total time of 3:55.30.
Williams finished sixth to earn 13 points in the 1650 Freestyle race. She finished with a time of 19:18.67.
Aspey earned Wilkes 12 points with a seventh place finish in the 200 Butterfly coming in at 2:30.52.
Turnitza (59:55) placed 14
th in the 100 Freestyle to earn three team points.
Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville) 14
th, 2:51.81) earned three points and
Kyleigh Smeltzer (York, PA/Northeastern) (16
th, 2:52.71) earned one point for Wilkes in the 200 Breaststroke.
The Colonels have next weekend off before returning to the pool for a home Middle Atlantic Conference meet against Lycoming College at the Wyoming Valley CYC Saturday, December 1 at 1:00 p.m.
