Elmira Tallies Five Unanswered to Defeat Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey 5-2
PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Despite taking an early 2-0 lead, the Wilkes University men's ice hockey team fell in its inaugural United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game 5-2 after Elmira College finished the game scoring the final five goals.
The Colonels fell to 0-1 in conference and 1-2 overall.
Wilkes got on the board at 6:04 when
Devon Schell (Scarsdale, NY/) notched an unassisted goal.
The Colonels doubled the lead at 8:19 when
Jay Gallagher (Reading, MA/) scored with a helper from
Tyler Barrow (Massapequa, NY/).
Elmira cut the deficit with a power play goal at 12:43 but Wilkes held the 2-1 lead as the first intermission began.
The Soaring Eagles got the only score in the second, but the third period was where Elmira took control, scoring a power play goal and two even strength goals to finish the scoring.
Brandon Gordon (Sault Ste. Marie, MI/) made 29 saves in the crease for the Colonels.
Wilkes outshot the Soaring Eagles 43-34.
The Colonels return to the ice for their home opener this Friday, when they host Stevenson University for the inaugural game at the Toyota SportsPlex and the programs inaugural Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game with puck drop scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
