Smicherko Finishes in Double-Figures for Wilkes Women's Basketball at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Gabby Smicherko (Edwardsville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) came off the bench to tally ten points, her first career game in double-figures, but the Wilkes University women's basketball team fell at Manhattanville College by an 83-50 final in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels fell to 0-2 in conference play and 3-7 overall.

Manhattanville came out of the gates fast, establishing a 7-1 lead through two-and-a-half minutes and maintained its advantage as the first quarter came to an end with the Valiants leading 20-9. Both teams matched the other point-for-point in the second quarter as Manhattanville led 37-26 heading into halftime.

The Valiants maintained their lead throughout the second half en route to the victory.

Smicherko chipped in three rebounds to go with her ten points. Gab Giordano (Moscow, PA/Holy Cross) finished with eight points and eight rebounds while Maddie Kelley (Dallas, PA/Dallas) contributed seven points and five rebounds.

Kayleah McGuire finished with 22 points and four assists to lead Manhattanville. Sarah Coutu added 19 points, seven assists, and nine steals while Spencer Shore contributed 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

Wilkes enters its holiday break following the game and will return to action on January 3rd against Centenary College at the Marts Center with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
