Grossmann Finishes Career at NCAA Championships
CLEVELAND, OH – Wilkes University senior
Matthew Grossmann (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) concluded his career at the 2018 NCAA Championships Friday night falling in both of his matches at the event hosted by Baldwin Wallace University at the Cleveland Public Auditorium.
Grossmann finished his senior season with a 24-8 overall mark making his second trip to the NCAA Championships over his four-year career. It marked the third time Grossmann posted 20 or more wins in a season at Wilkes.
He began the day with an 11-3 major decision loss to third seed Jimmy Mcauliffe of Elmhurst, ranked fifth in the 141-pound weight class.
He then wrestled sixth seed Joseph Ferinde of Johnson and Wales in the consolation bracket where he fell 8-7 in a hard-fought, back-and-forth match. Ferinde entered the championships ranked ninth overall in the weight class.
Grossmann finished his career with a 99-18 overall record including two trips to the NCAA Championships and a national title as a freshman in 2015, Wilkes' 11
th national champion in program history.
