Misericordia Controls Wilkes Women's Lacrosse in Road Win

EDWARDSVILLE, PA – Visiting Misericordia University sprinted out to a 14-0 lead at halftime to pick up the road Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) victory by a 19-1 final over the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team Wednesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes is now 3-10 overall this season and 0-4 in the MAC Freedom. Misericordia improved to 8-6 overall and remained unbeaten in the conference at 4-0.
Freshman Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) scored her 23rd goal of the season off an assist Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) with 11:09 left in the second half for the Wilkes tally. The assist was the 21st of the season for the junior.

Boccio hit the crossbar just past the midway point of the first half and Burkhardt hit the post with 14:03 left in the second half for the other close scoring chances by the Lady Colonels attack.

Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) made three saves in 29:39 of action and Melania Velasquez (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) made three saves in 28:53 as the two sophomore goalkeepers split time.

Kirsten Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Kenwood) led Wilkes with three ground balls while Boccio, Carlini, Velasquez, and Danielle McCole (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) all collected two on the day. Kylie Bedwell (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) led the way with two caused turnovers. Boccio won three draw controls while Jackson and Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) won the draw control battle twice.

Ten different players scored for Misericordia led by a game-high four from Olivia Garcia. Amy Roth collected eight points on three goals and five assists.

The Lady Colonels close out the home portion of their schedule at Schmidt Stadium on Saturday when they host Eastern University for Senior Day at 1:00 p.m.
