Bentz's Penalty Kick Earns Wilkes Men's Soccer Season-Opening Tie

Kyle Bentz's (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) 80
th minute penalty kick helped lead the Wilkes University men's soccer team to a 1-1 tie in the 2018 season opener at Penn State Berks on Friday afternoon.
The Colonels open the season 0-0-1.
Neither team had success generating a sustained offensive attack through the first 45 minute with each team taking four shots.
The Nittany Lions got on the board in the 58
th minute after a corner played into the box was headed past Wilkes' keeper.
The Colonels turned on the attack in the second half, notching 11 shots compared to just two for Penn State Berks, none which was more important than Bentz's penalty kick at the 79:04 mark. Wilkes got the final two shots of regulation, but the game continued into extra time.
In the first extra period, the Colonels took the only two shots but both ultimately went wide. Neither team took a shot in the second overtime as the match ended in a stalemate.
Wilkes had the majority of the shots in the game, taking 17 while the Nittany Lions took six. Eight of the Colonels attempts were on net compared to just three for Penn State Berks. Wilkes also had the advantage in corner kicks 12-4.
Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) made two save in his first action of the season.
The Colonels return to the pitch on Monday when they head to Marywood for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game.
