Keating Wins Twice for Wilkes Women's Swimming
SCRANTON, PA – The Wilkes University women's swimming team was defeated by Marywood University 182-65 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Colonels to 2-7 overall.
Results
Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) had a strong day for the navy and gold as she walked away with two wins for her team.
The first victory came in the 100 Backstroke as Keating won by nearly five seconds with a time of 1:06.46. She would bookend her day with a first-place finish in the 100 Fly, touching the wall in 1:05.79.
There were several second-place finishes during the meet with Kyleigh Smeltzer (York, PA/Northeastern) taking second in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:19.26.
Morgan Williams (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) narrowly missed out on capturing first in the 50 Freestyle as she finished eight hundredths of a second behind the winner at 28.60.
Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville) and Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover) took second and third in the 100 Freestyle with times of 1:02.25 and 1:02.90 respectively.
Freshman Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville) finished in second-place in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:49.44.
In the 400 Freestyle Relay, Wilkes ended their day with a second-place finish as the team of Keating, Julia Rostron (Harleysville, PA/Souderton), Turnitza and Williams finished just under two seconds behind the winners.
The Colonels return to the pool when they head to King's on Saturday, February 2nd at 1:00 p.m.
