Wilkes Women's Soccer Falls to Misericordia
DALLAS, PA – Misericordia University scored three second half goals in a 4-0 victory to put away the Wilkes University women's soccer team on Tuesday night at Manglesdorf Field in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action.
Wilkes dropped to 4-6-1 overall and to 1-2-0 in the MAC Freedom. Misericordia improved to 6-4-2 overall and to 2-1-0 in the conference with the home victory.
The Colonels earned the first corner kick of the game in the sixth minute and the first shot off the head of
Emily Wirth (Vestal, NY/Vestal) in the seventh minute but it was saved. The Cougars began to turn up the pressure with four of the next five shots.
Misericordia then broke a scoreless tie in the 36th minute when Maegan Allspach found the target.
After Wilkes again had the first corner of the second half and
Emily Bidelspach's (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) shot was block it was the Cougars who put the game away with goals in the 60th, 78th and 82nd minutes.
Samantha Cecere (Batavia, NY/Batavia) made three saves for the Colonels on the night.
The Colonels will continue MAC Freedom play on Saturday when they host Eastern University at Bruggeworth Field at 12:00 p.m. The contest will also mark Senior Day where the Colonels will recognize their nine seniors.
