Wilkes Women's Volleyball Falls Twice at Widener Tri-Match

CHESTER, PA – The Wilkes University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Widener University tri-match Saturday afternoon. The Colonels fell 3-0 to Neumann University in its opener before the host Pride posted a 3-0 victory in the second match of the day.

Wilkes moved to 11-10 overall following the two-match event.

Neumann took the first match in three sets by scores of 27-25, 25-11 and 25-15. The first set went back-and-forth with each team taking and giving up leads throughout. Neumann led 25-24 looking to put the match away, but Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley) answered with a kill to tie the set again. Neumann then used back-to-back kills from Grace Herbain and Bre Hickey to seal the victory.

Mikovich led six Colonels with at least two kills finishing with six kills, two solo blocks and 11 digs. Michele Natale (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and Alex Ferrier (Auburn, PA/Blue Mountain) each added five kills. Karlye Huffman (Sugar Run, PA/Wyalusing) led the passing game with 17 assists.

Widener swept the second match of the day by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-14. Mikovich enjoyed a fine all-around game finishing with a match-high 11 kills and seven digs. Natale followed with six kills while Huffman posted 20 assists on Wilkes' 25 total kills.

Mikovich moved into third place in Colonels history on the day, now standing at 1,270 career digs.
