DOYLESTOWN, PA – The Wilkes University wrestling team split a pair of matches at the Delaware Valley duals on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels opened the day with a 28-19 victory over the host Aggies before falling 26-9 against York College (Pa.).
 
Wilkes moved to 3-1 in dual matches on the season following the 1-1 day of wrestling.
 
Nicholas Bauer (Coplay, PA/Wyoming Seminary) opened the match against Delaware Valley in strong fashion cruising to an 18-2 technical fall at 125-pounds. After a major decision by Delaware Valley at 133, Dylan O'Connor (Somerset, NJ/Bishop George Ahr) received a forfeit at 141 to extend the lead to 11-4 after three bouts.
 
Liam Flaherty (Needmore, PA/Southern Fulton) continued the extra point scoring for the Colonels with an 18-0 shutout at 157-pounds before Jason DeBoard (Avoca, PA/Pittston) (5-4) and John Devito (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) (6-4) went back-to-back with decision wins at 165 and 174 respectively.
 
Moustafa Almeky (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) rounded out the scorers for Wilkes when he pinned Justin Acevado in 4:49.
 
In the match against York (Pa.) Wilkes saw three wrestlers earn decision wins. Jack Bauer (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored a 3-0 win at 133-pounds. Flaherty posted his second win of the day with a 5-3 decision at 165 using two takedowns in the first and two escapes in the second and third periods to earn the win. Austin Cominsky (Cape May Courthouse, NJ/Middle Township) rounded out the Colonel winners in the match securing a 5-0 sweep of Jarrell Mayo.
 
Wilkes returns to the mat next Saturday when the Colonels travel to Allentown, Pa. to compete in the Scotty Wood Duals. Wilkes will have matches with Kent State, Central College, Muhlenberg and Gettysburg starting at 9:00 a.m.
