Wilkes Men's Soccer Falls to Stevenson in ECAC Second Round

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's soccer team fell 2-0 in the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Second Round to top-seeded Stevenson at Bruggeworth Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Colonels finish the 2019 season with a 9-8-3 overall record.

Both teams had their time in the offensive zone through the first 15 minutes but neither team was able to get a solid scoring opportunity. Both defensive units were active to start the game as the score remained tied.

Stevenson took the lead in the 17th minute when Diego Guerrero found Tariq Lee screaming up the middle of the field for a tap-in on a breakaway.

Lee added to the lead in the 19th minute with an unassisted tally.

The Mustangs ended the half with Drew Meyers sprinting through the heart of Wilkes' defense for an open shot that sailed high over Colonels goalkeeper Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area). The 2-0 score remained as the horn sounded ending the first half.

Jeffrey Eager-Heffner (Blandon, PA/Fleetwood Area) sent a shot over the net in the Colonels first opportunity of the second half in the 55th minute. In the 60th Wilkes nearly cut into the lead when Jacob Bausher (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg Area) played a ball over the top of the Mustangs defense that Gabriel Nieves (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland Senior) was able to run onto and flick the ball past the goalkeeper, however a Stevenson defender was able to keep the ball from crossing the goal line.

Wilkes was unable to get any shots through as the final horn sounded to end the Colonels run.

Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) made three saves before being replaced by Russell Rauh (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington Senior) to start the second half, who made three saves without allowing a score.
