Wilkes Women's Swimming Places Program-Best 5th at Diamond City Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, PA – On Sunday the Wilkes University women's swimming team wrapped up a record breaking weekend in the pool by placing fifth of 11 teams at the conclusion of the two-day 2019 Diamond City Invitational hosted by King's College at the Wyoming Valley CYC. The fifth place finish is the best by the program over the past six seasons of competition at the yearly event.

Wilkes ended the 18-event invitational with 636 team points. The University of Scranton placed first with 1,463.5 points.

Session three on Sunday consisted of the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 400 Freestyle Relay, and 1650 Freestyle.

Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove Area) set a new program record with a 2:19.60 to place fifth out of 34 swimmers in the 200 Backstroke. She earned Wilkes 25 points with the swim.

In the 400 Freestyle Relay the team of Keating, Maddy Kinard (Dover, PA/Dover Area), Tricia Bartosh (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), and Alexa Crossgrove (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) placed fourth of 17 teams to add 52 team points. They finished with a time of 3:54.04.

Crossgrove set a new program record in the final event when she took gold in the 1650 Freestyle. Crossgrove finished in 19:00.31 to score 32 points and best 13 other swimmers in the event.

The Colonels return to the pool on Saturday, December 7 when they travel to Williamsport, Pa. to face Lycoming College in a dual meet at 1:00 p.m. The Warriors placed ninth at the Diamond City Invitational.
