No. 4 Wilkes Women's Soccer Falls in MAC Freedom Semifinals at No. 1 Stevens
HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Wilkes University Colonels women's soccer squad, the No. 4 seed in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom tournament (MAC Freedom) traveled to the No. 1 seed Stevens Tuesday night for a semifinal showdown against the Ducks.
The Colonels (8-8-1) struggled to muster much offense against the Ducks (14-3-1), who were ranked nationally at No. 18 in the national polls, and fell 2-0 to the top team in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.
The Ducks netted their two goals in the early going. In the fourth minute, the Ducks capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity to put the game at 1-0. In the 16th minute, a Ducks player managed to slip past senior goalkeeper
Samantha Cecere (Batavia, NY/Batavia) to put home the second goal.
The score would hold until time ran out to send the Ducks to the finals. The Colonels were outshot 23-9 on the evening, with Cecere recording 10 saves against the barrage. Sophomore midfielder
Emily Bidelspach (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) led all Colonels with three shots on the evening, including a shot on goal.
The Colonels will wait and see if they get an invite to the ECAC postseason tournament after being eliminated from the MAC Freedom postseason tournament by the Ducks.
