Wilkes Women's Basketball Unable to Overcome Lycoming

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's backetball team continued their home stand against the Lycoming Warriors on Tuesday night at the Marts Center.

The Colonels (5-4) struggled to muster much against the Warriors (7-4) in the first half and the second half wasn't enough to overcome the deficit and fell 78-57 against their Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth counterparts.

The Colonels hung around at the halfway point of the first period 8-7, but the Warriors took command with a 13-4 run to end the period, built off of layups and free throws.  A pair of baskets beyond the three-point arc early in the second cut the Warriors lead to six in the opening minutes, but the Warriors replied with an 18-3 run to effectively put the Colonels out of reach.

The Colonels third and fourth periods went better, as they were outscored 20-17 in the third and outscored the Warriors 15-12 in the fourth, but the Warriors' lead built up in the second quarter proved to be insurmountable.

Three Warriors scored in the double-digits, while one managed a double-double on the evening.  The Warriors out-rebounded the Colonels 52-35.  Freshman guard Macy Berryman (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East) had a career night, scoring a career-high 16 points and earning a career-high six rebounds.  Both totals were enough to lead the Colonels on the evening.  Junior guard Vanessa Whitecavage (Shenandoah, PA/Marian Catholic) was the other Colonel to score in double-digits, putting in 11 points.

The Colonels will look to bounce back against Neumann on Thursday at the Marts Center.  Tip-off will be at 6:00 p.m., and the Colonels are 0-3 in the live stats era against the Knights.
