Wilkes Women's Swimming: MAC Championships Day 1
York, PA – The Wilkes University women's swim team made the podium in one of the relay events for the first time in four years during the first day of the 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center on Thursday evening.

The Colonels competed in two relay events on day one and finished in the podium (eighth place) in the 800 Freestyle Relay as the team of Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove), Morgan Williams (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover) and Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville) ended the race in 8:27.20 to earn their team 22 points. Their time was also a new team record, shattering the previous mark by 12 seconds.
Keating also set a team record for the 200 Freestyle in the event by leading off her leg of the race with a time of 2:00.17.
Wilkes took 11th in the 200 Medley Relay as Williams, Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville), Turnitiza and Kyleigh Smeltzer (York, PA/Northeastern) finished with a time of 2:04.87 to earn the navy and gold another 12 points.
Wilkes currently sits in ninth place out of 12 teams after the first night of competition. The Colonels will get back in the water tomorrow, Friday, February 15th, at 10:00 a.m. for preliminary rounds before finals continue at 6:00 p.m.
