Wilkes Women's Swimming: MAC Championships Day 3

 

York, PA – The Wilkes University women's swim team had another podium finish during day three of the 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center on Saturday.

 

Results

 

The day began with preliminary rounds in the morning where Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) qualified in fifth thus earning a spot in the A final in the 400 IM with a time of 4:52.14.

 

A pair of Wilkes swimmers qualified for B finals as Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover) (1:04.11) placed 13th in the prelim 100 Fly while Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville) (1:14.28) finished in 16th in the 100 Breaststroke preliminary.

 

Keating improved upon her earlier performance in the evening A final as she made the podium with a fourth place finish after touching the wall in 4:49.20 to earn her team 15 points.

 

Aspey also improved upon her morning time in the B finals (1:03.88) but placed one spot lower in 14th to earn the Colonels three points. Detweiler repeated her qualifying place as she again finished in 16th (1.15.92) to give Wilkes another point toward their total.

 

The Colonels ended the evening session with the 400 Medley Relay and did so in record breaking fashion as the team of Keating, Detweiler, Aspey and Morgan Williams (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) finished in 4.22.61 to break the previous program mark of 4.25.71. The ninth place finished earned the navy and gold 18 points. Keating also broke the 100 Backstroke record with a time of 1:03.50 leading off the relay.

 

Wilkes currently sits in 10th out of 12 teams heading into the final day of competition. The Colonels will get back in the water tomorrow, Sunday, February 17th, at 10:00 a.m. for more preliminary rounds before finals continue at 6:00 p.m.
