Wilkes Women's Swimming Falls to Rival King's
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's swimming team lost a meet at King's College 138-41 on Saturday afternoon. Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) picked up the lone victory of the day for the Colonels.
The loss drops Wilkes to 2-8 on the season and 1-5 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).
Results
In the fourth race of the meet Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville) finished in fourth place out of 11 competitors in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 27.91.
Keating earned her win in the 200 Backstroke, touching the wall in 2:21.44 to win by nearly six seconds and earning her team nine points. The win complemented the sophomore's second place finish in the 200 IM earlier in the meet.
Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville) registered a fourth place finish as well, coming in the nine person 100 Freestyle, as she finished in 1:07.08 to pick up two points for the navy and gold.
Julia Rostron (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) notched another second place finish for the Colonels in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:55.85 to earn Wilkes four more points.
The Colonels ended the day by finishing second in the 200 Freestyle Relay with the team of Morgan Williams (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover), Turnitza and Keating finishing three seconds behind the winners at 1:46.71.
Wilkes will now look ahead to the MAC Championships in York, Pa. on February 14th-17th.
