Big Second Half Lifts Gwynedd Mercy over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse 18-8
 
GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – Host Gwynedd Mercy outscored Wilkes University 11-2 over the second half to break open a one-goal game at the break on way to an 18-8 victory Saturday afternoon.
 
Wilkes dropped to 0-1 overall after its season debut while Gwynedd Mercy evened its mark at 1-1 after falling to King's College in its season opener on Thursday.
 
The teams traded goals early in the first half as Camryn Devitt (Northampton, PA/Northampton) notched her first collegiate goal just two minutes into the game tying the score at 1. Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) scored the first of her team-high four goals one minute later tying the game at 2. Wilkes then opened its largest lead of the contest scoring the game's next three goals as Boccia struck twice and Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) once to give the Colonels a 5-3 advantage with 15:15 left in the half.
 
The Griffins responded with four unanswered goals to take back the lead up 7-5 before Burkhardt notched her second strike of the game as Wilkes trailed by just one 7-6 after 30 minutes of play.
 
Sierra Duman (Smyrna, DE/Smyrna) tied the game four minutes into the second half when she found the back of the net unassisted.
 
From there the hosts scored the game's next 11 goals to break open an 18-7 lead with just over three minutes left to play. Boccio added her fourth and final tally of the game with 1:23 on the clock.
 
Boccio finished with four goals bringing her career total to 98. Burhardt followed with three points on two goals and one assist. Duman added two points on one goal and one assist while Devitt contributed the final Wilkes tally.
 
Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) made nine saves in net for the Colonels playing all 60 minutes.
 
Gwynedd Mercy outshot Wilkes 40-26 while garnering 18 draw controls to the Colonels' 11.
 
The Colonels make their home debut next Saturday hosting Notre Dame of Maryland University at 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
