Big Inning Proves Costly as Wilkes Baseball Falls to Muskingum 7-3
FORT PIERCE, Fl. – A five-run third inning proved to be the difference as the Wilkes University baseball team fell by a 7-3 final against Muskingum University in Fort Pierce, Fl. on Tuesday morning.

Wilkes got on the board in the top of the first on a Brandon Reno (Hunlock Creek, PA/Northwest Area) single to right-center bringing home Jack Fischer (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley), who reached on a one-out single and moved to second when Nicholas Capozzi (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) followed with a walk.
Muskingum pulled ahead in the bottom of the third with five runs on four hits.
The Colonels cut the deficit to 5-3 in the top of the sixth when Reno smashed a two-run homer to left bringing in Capozzi, who reached on a one-out single to left.
The Muskies added runs in the seventh and eighth to retake a four-run advantage at 7-3.
Keaton Allison (Aiken, SC/Aiken) suffered the defeat for Wilkes, allowing five runs on five hits with three walks and one strikeout over 2.1 innings. Nolan Ott (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville Area) followed with 4.2 innings, surrendering one run (unearned) on two hits with zero walks and four strikeouts. Colin Smith (Purdys, NY/Somers) tossed the final inning, giving up one run on one hit.
Reno finished 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI's while Capozzi went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Wilkes has an off day on Wednesday, returning to the diamond on Thursday against Domincan College at 4:00 p.m.
