Wink's Big Day Helps Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Past College of Mount Saint Vincent 17-6
EDWARDSVILLE – Wilkes University's
John Wink (Glenside, PA/Abington) continued his torrid play posting nine points (seven goals and two assists) as the host Colonels posted a 17-6 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent (CMSV) Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
With the win Wilkes improved to 3-2 overall while CMSV dropped to 0-2 on the young season.
CMSV scored the game's first goal when Jaiden Martinez scored unassisted at the 4:38 mark of the first quarter. From there it was all Colonels as the offense came alive in a big way scoring 14 unanswered goals from the 3:51 mark of the first quarter through the 7:34 mark of the third stanza.
Eight different Colonels reached the scoring column during the Wilkes rally including five goals from Wink, two from
Max Brown (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) and two from
Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley), the first points of his collegiate career.
After Patrick Nagy scored back-to-back goals for CMSV to cut into the Wilkes lead 14-3,
Nico Lorenzo (Howell, NJ/Howell) scored unassisted and Wink added two more of his game-high seven tallies off assists from
James Peaney (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Twp.) and
Gavin Scofield (Stratford, CT/Stratford) to push the advantage back to 17-3.
CMSV added three more goals to finish of both teams' scoring in the game late in the fourth quarter.
Wink notched six or more points for the fourth straight contest posting the nine points on 12 shots.
Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) followed with three points on two goals and one helper while Brown also chipped in three points on two goals and one assist.
Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) finished with two points on a goal and assist while Ormsby notched two strikes. Lorenzo,
Connor Daly (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) and
Matthew Bush (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) were the other goal scorers for Wilkes.
Three different goalies saw time in net for Wilkes with the starter
Daniel Cox (Stratford, CT/Stratford) recording the win finishing with one save in 15 minutes of action.
Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) made four stops while
Anthony Scafuro (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland Regional) posted three saves.
Andrew Moynihan (Easton, MA/Lawrence Academy) was impressive once again in the faceoff circle for Wilkes finishing 9-for-11 with a team-high six ground balls.
Wilkes continues its home stretch Wednesday welcoming University of New England at 4:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
