Early Runs Too Much for Wilkes Baseball to Overcome at King's
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University baseball team found itself trailing by nine runs after four innings as it fell 9-3 in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) game at King's College on Thursday afternoon.
The Colonels fell to 5-8 in conference and 11-15 overall.
King's tallied two runs in the first, five in the third, and two in the fourth as it raced out to the early advantage.
Wilkes got on the board in the top of the eighth on an RBI single from Michael Patrizio (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) that brought home Vinny Bobbin (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain), a run-scoring wild pitch bringing home Brady Wing (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), and sacrifice fly from Jack Fischer (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) that completed Patrizio's trip around the bases.
Gage Coudriet (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) fell to 2-3 on the season, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits over two innings. Nolan Ott (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville Area) tossed five innings allowing three runs while Keaton Allison (Aiken, SC/Aiken) went one inning.
Wing finished 2-for-3 with one run scored while Matt Reinert (Telford, PA/Souderton) was 2-for-4 to lead the offense.
The Colonels return to the diamond on Saturday when they will host King's for a 1:00 p.m. MAC Freedom doubleheader.
