Wink Reaches 200 Points  as Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Falls at DeSales 14-5

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – John Wink (Glenside, PA/Abington) reached the 200-point plateau as the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team fell 14-5 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action at DeSales University, who is receiving votes in the latest USILA Division III Coaches Poll, on Wednesday evening.

The Colonels fell to 2-4 in conference and 8-7 overall.

Wilkes got on the board at 11:12 in the first quarter on a goal from Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) assisted by John Wink (Glenside, PA/Abington).

DeSales took the lead with two goals at 10:28 and 7:38.

Wink tied the score with 10 seconds left in the quarter with an assist from Weaver. With the goal, Wink reached 200 points for his career, the first player since the restart of the program to reach the milestone.

The Bulldogs scored five unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead, a run that was broken with a man-up goal from Wink assisted by Nico Lorenzo (Howell, NJ/Howell) with 6:22 until halftime.

DeSales added an eighth goal with 6:05 on the clock before Lorenzo finished the scoring in the first half with an assist to Weaver as the Bulldogs led 8-4 after 30 minutes.

Lorenzo cut deficit to 8-5 51 seconds into the third quarter assisted by Connor Daly (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.), but DeSales scored the final six goals of the game to finish the scoring.

Lorenzo (2 goals, 1 assist), Weaver (1 goal, 2 assists), and Wink (2 goals, one assist) all finished with three points for the Colonels.

Carter Whittemore (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) made 21 saves in the cage for Wilkes.

The Colonels conclude the regular season on Saturday when they will host FDU-Florham for a 1:00 p.m. MAC Freedom game. The game will also be senior day, where the seniors playing in their final regular-season home game will be honored with a pre-game ceremony.
