Wilkes Softball Drops First Game in MAC Freedom Tournament Against Misericordia 4-0

EDWARDSVILLE – Misericordia's Brooke Moyle went all seven innings scattering five hits while not allowing a run in the Cougars 4-0 victory over Wilkes University in game two of the 2019 MAC Freedom Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

Misericordia improved to 29-10 overall following the postseason win while Wilkes dropped to 25-15 on the season. Wilkes will now play the fourth seed DeSales University, who fell 4-2 against the top seed Manhattanville College in the first game of the tournament, at 4:00 p.m. in an elimination game. Misericordia and Manhattanville will meet in the winner's game at 2:00 p.m.

The teams went scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when Kiersten Pflueger connected on a solo home run to left field to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Misericordia then added to its advantage in the bottom of the fourth as Pflueger came up big again hitting an RBI single to center. Two batters later Brianna Holder drilled a two-run double to center to push the lead to 4-0 after four.

From there Moyle continued her efficient game in the circle getting out of a jam in the fifth after Jordyn Kondras (Willow Street, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) and Gab Giordano (Moscow, PA/Holy Cross) reached base with two outs. She used a one, two, three inning in the sixth and sealed her tenth win of the season in the seventh getting a line out, pop out and ground out after Britny Jumalon (Torrance, CA/Torrance) reached on a fielding error at second base.

Kondras led the Colonels at the plate finishing 2-for-3. Gracen Staunton (Kernersville, NC/Northwest Guilford) suffered the loss in the circle for Wilkes going 3.2 innings allowing all four runs on six hits. Rhiannon Aurand (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) entered in relief and pitched 2.1 innings not allowing a hit or run.
