Wilkes Softball Concludes Season at MAC Freedom Tournament
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University softball team concluded its 2019 season with a 3-1 loss to Misericordia University in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) tournament at the Ralston Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels finish the campaign with a 26-16 overall record. The 26 wins is the most the program has had since the 2008 season, when the team finished 26-14.
Wilkes opened the scoring in the top of the second when Gracen Staunton (Kernersville, NC/Northwest Guilford) led off by reaching on an error, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Erin Cabry (York, PA/Central York), and after a fly out, scored on Britny Jumalon's (Torrance, CA/Torrance) single up the middle.
Misericordia tied the score with a home run to lead off the bottom of the third, and plated two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Rhiannon Aurand (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) suffered the defeat, allowing two unearned runs in 2.2 innings with four hits, zero walks and three strikeouts. Celine Podlesney (Hazle Twp., PA/Hazleton) started in the circle for the Colonels, allowing one run on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts over 3.1 innings.
Jumalon finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI while Staunton and Jordyn Kondras (Willow Street, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) each had one hit.
