Rauh Makes 10 Saves as Wilkes Men's Soccer Plays Haverford to 0-0 Draw

HAVERFORD, PA – Sophomore goalkeeper Russell Rauh (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington Senior) made a career-high 10 saves to help the Wilkes University men's soccer team to a 0-0 double overtime draw at Haverford College Saturday afternoon. The Colonels earned the tie at Walton Field against the Fords who were receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll this week.

Wilkes is now 2-2-1 overall after playing its third overtime game of the season. Haverford is 2-1-1 after the tie.

Rauh made his first save in the seventh minute of action. The Colonels first shot came from Anthony Lazzareschi (Cranston, RI/Bishop Hendricken) in the tenth minute, an attempt that was saved by Michael Iacono. Rauh then made three more saves in the first half as the two teams headed for the second 45 minutes scoreless.

The Colonels enjoyed the better of the chances early in the second half as they earned the first three scoring chances. Then in the 52nd minute, Kyle Bentz (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) had a shot stopped by a Fords' defender as Matthieu Maciejewski was credited with the defensive save to keep the game tied.

Rauh would make four total saves in the second half and the Wilkes offense produced 11 shots compared to just one in the first half but the game went into extra time.

In the first overtime period the Colonels earned an early corner kick by Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior) but Shane Henehan's (Bensalem, PA/Mast Community Charter School) header went wide of goal. The game would head to a second 10-minute overtime where Rauh came up with two saves to preserve the tie.

Ruah is now 1-1-1 on the season after earning his first career clean sheet. Iacono and Dylan Ioffreda combined for the shutout for Haveford. Nicholas Gaydos (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) and Bentz led the Colonels offense with three shots each.

The Fords had 32 shots compared to the Colonels 14 and also had seven corner kicks to the Colonels three over the 110 minutes.

Wilkes returns home after concluding a three-game road trip when it hosts Susquehanna University at Schmidt Stadium on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
