Wilkes Field Hockey Struggles to Capitalize on Opportunities at Scranton
SCRANTON, PA. – The Wilkes University Colonels traveled to Scranton for a non-conference showdown against the Scranton Royals Wednesday night.
The Colonels (6-4) struggled to punch home goals with their opportunities and fell to the Royals (5-3) 3-0.
The Royals put home the first goal of the evening just before the first quarter ended at 14:47. They tacked on another at the 21
st minute to extend their lead to 2-0. Neither team found the net again until the fourth quarter, where the Royals put the finishing touch on the final tally in the 47
th minute to make it 3-0.
The Colonels had nine shots on the evening, eight of which were on goal. They had seven penalty corners to the Royals three. Junior midfielder
Lauren Baldwin (Clarks Summit, PA/Lackawanna Trail) had four of the Wilkes shots on the evening, three of which were on goal. Freshman forward
Morghan Murphy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) had two shots for the game, both on goal.
The Colonels look to bounce back from their defeat as they start MAC Freedom play on Saturday. They travel to St. Davids, Pa. at 11:00 a.m. to take on conference rival Eastern. The Colonels are 4-5 in the series since 2010, and won last season's battle 6-3 at Schmidt Stadium.
