Second Half Comeback Falls Short for Wilkes Men's Soccer at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, PA – After entering the second half trailing 3-1 the Wilkes University men's soccer team attempted a comeback but fell short in a 3-2 defeat at Draper Walsh Stadium in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

The road loss sends Wilkes to 4-3-2 on the season while Immaculata improved to 3-6-1.

The Colonels had the first five shots of the first half but it was the Mighty Macs who scored first in the 20th minute to go ahead 1-0.

Wilkes responded just 1:01 later when Shane Henehan (Bensalem, PA/Mast Community Charter School) scored off an assist from Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior) following a corner kick. It was the second goal of the season for Henehan and the third assist for Horwedel.

The frantic action continued as Immaculata regained the lead just 18 seconds later. The Mighty Macs added a third first half goal in the 39th minute.

Christopher Garcia (Teaneck, NJ/Bergen Charter) found the goal at the 87:23 mark for his second goal of the year off assists from Danny McGinley (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley) and Henehan as the Colonels strived for a late comeback. Over the final 2:37 the Colonels put three more shots on goal but Mikey Kalpokas made two saves and the Mighty Macs defense stopped another to preserve the home victory.

Wilkes outshot Immaculata 9-4 in the second half and had a 6-1 corners advantage. For the game Wilkes led those stats 18-12 and 9-4. Kyle Bentz (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) led all players with four shots.

Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) played the first half in goal for the Colonels, making three saves. Russell Rauh (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington Senior) entered to play the second half as he made two saves.
