Wilkes Women's Volleyball Falls to a Barrage of Charger Runs

LANCASTER, PA. -- The Wilkes University women's volleyball team hit the road once more Tuesday night for a non-conference match versus Lancaster Bible.

The Colonels (2-3) fell to the Chargers (1-4) in a 26-24, 18-25, 13-25, 14-25 affair.  Wilkes claimed the first set off of the strength of a 6-2 run to finish the set.  Senior outside hitter Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley) recorded five kills in the set to lead the way to victory.

They struggled to find their footing in the subsequent sets, with the Chargers continually putting the Colonels on the back foot with strong runs.  They went on an early 9-2 run in the second set, an 11-2 run in the middle of the third set, and started the fourth set 15-2 to knock the Colonels out.  Four Chargers finished the night with double-digit kills, while senior setter Allison Shuey recorded 48 assists in a dominating effort.

Mikovich led the Colonels with 10 kills and six blocks for the night.  Sophomore setter Karlye Huffman (Sugar Run, PA/Wyalusing) put in a team-leading 17 assists and added in 13 digs.  Senior defensive specialist Julie Murphy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) had 15 digs to lead the Colonels.  They led Lancaster Bible in blocks 8-3 on the evening.

The Colonels look to bounce back against Marywood on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in Scranton, Pa.  The Colonels are 5-7 against the Pacers since 2008, and lost last years matchup at the Marts Center in a 3-0 engagement.
