Balanced Scoring Attack Leads Stevens past Wilkes Women's Basketball

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A balanced scoring attack led Stevens Institute of Technology past the Wilkes University women's basketball team in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) game as four Stevens players finished in double figures in an 85-54 Colonel loss on Saturday afternoon.

This was the first conference matchup between the two foes as Stevens joined the league this past summer.

The Colonels fell to 6-7 on the season and 0-2 in the conference.

The Ducks started the game off strong with an 8-0 run including two three-pointers. A pair of three-pointers from Macy Berryman (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East) kept the Colonels within five points early in the first quarter with the Ducks leading 11-6.

Midway through the first quarter, the Ducks went on a 9-2 scoring run to push their lead to 20-8. Wilkes followed with a 7-0 run of their own, including five points from Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke), to bring themselves within five points of Stevens at 20-15. The Ducks finished the quarter with a 7-2 run extending their lead to 27-17.

Roberts started the second quarter off with a layup to bring the Colonels within eight. Stevens then went on a 23-5 run midway through the second quarter to extend its lead to 50-24.

The Ducks outscored the Colonels by 13 points in the second quarter to push their lead to 51-28 at half.

Stevens continued to expand upon their lead during the second half of the game as Wilkes was unable to close the deficit.

Allie Moss (12 points, five rebounds), Jess Broad (11 points, seven rebounds), Emily Nunez (11 points), and Christina Li (10 points, four rebounds, five assists) all finished in double-figures for the Ducks.

Berryman led the way for the Colonels with 15 points on 50 percent shooting (5-of-10) from beyond the arc. Roberts added nine points and 5 rebounds for Wilkes.

The Colonels returns to action on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. when they host DeSales University in a MAC Freedom contest at the Marts Center.
