TCNJ Shoots Past Wilkes Men's Basketball 95-69
EWING, NJ – The College of New Jersey shot 56.4 percent from the floor to topple the Wilkes University men's basketball team in a non-conference tilt Thursday afternoon at Packer Hall by a 95-69 score.
With the loss Wilkes dropped to 6-4 overall while TCNJ improved to 5-6.
Jake Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) led the Colonels with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting and also added five rebounds and five steals.
Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) added 13 points and nine rebounds while
Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) and
Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) each scored nine points.
The Lions led throughout the contest on their way to the home victory.
A Marshall layup with 12:02 remaining in the first half cut the TCNJ advantage to just three points at 19-16.
Donovan Breeding (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) then hit a three-point shot with 7:44 left to pull Wilkes back within six and Robel did the same with a layup at the 5:50 mark as the Lions lead stood at 33-27. From there the Lions finished the first half on a 19-6 run to lead 52-33 at halftime.
Wilkes was unable to make a substantial push in the second half as the TCNJ lead grew to as many as 35 points at the 8:56 mark.
The Colonels grabbed 12 offensive rebounds to tally 15 second-chance points as they held a seven-point edge in the category.
Travis Jocelyn scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the floor to lead TCNJ. Ryan Jensen followed with 15 points while PJ Ringel and Mike Walley added 12 each. Randall Walko rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Lions with 11 points.
The Colonels will look to rebound on Saturday with a home game against Susquehanna University with tipoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. inside the Marts Center. The River Hawks lead the series 4-1 since 2008.
