Wilkes Women's Basketball Falls to Monarchs Fourth Quarter at Home
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University Colonels continued Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play with a Marts Center showdown against crosstown rival King's.
The Colonels (6-10, 0-5 MACF) hung tough with the Monarchs (11-5, 5-0) before falling to a fourth quarter run and dropping the game 75-53.
The Colonels hung tough early, sitting tied at 11 with the Monarchs before King's went on a 9-1 run to finish the frame. The Monarchs would mostly maintain their advantage throughout the second period, though a late three-pointer by junior guard
Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) cut the lead to seven heading into the locker room for halftime.
Jumping out of the gates after the half, the Colonels cut down the Monarchs lead to two in the opening minutes thanks to a pair of three-pointers from freshman guard
Macy Berryman (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East). The Monarchs would gradually build their lead up again throughout the frame and went into the fourth quarter up 53-44. The Monarchs finally put the Colonels away in the last 10 minutes, taking the fourth quarter 22-9 on route to their fifth straight conference victory of the season.
Berryman was the lone Colonel to hit double digit points, tying her season and career high with 16 points. Junior guard
Maddie Kelley (Dallas, PA/Dallas) had eight points and nine rebounds, while Kinczel finished with eight points. Five Monarchs finished with double-digit points, with Rebecca Prociak finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double on the evening.
The Colonels continue to seek their first conference victory of the season as they head out on the road for a pair of games. They travel to Madison, N.J. to face FDU-Florham on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
