Wilkes Men's Volleyball Sweeps Immaculata on Road
IMMACULATA, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels men's volleyball team hit the road for an in-state nonconference matchup against Immaculata University Friday night.
The Colonels (3-2) faced little resistance from the Mighty Macs (0-2) as they cruised to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-18) victory over their in-state rival.
The Colonels nursed a 15-11 lead in the first set and clinched the set with a 10-4 run. They carried their moment into the second set, starting the set 6-1 and breaking open the set with a 14-3 run to carry the second set with ease. After starting the last set up 8-3, the Mighty Macs clawed within four after some back and forth points before the Colonels put the set and match out of reach with a 5-1 run on their way to a 25-18 set victory.
The Colonels held the Mighty Macs to a -.021 hitting percentage for the match. Senior middle hitter
Cole Hefner (East Greenville, PA/Southern Lehigh) recorded five service aces. Six Colonels had at least four kills for the match. Freshman setter
Zach Shay (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) had 25 assists to fuel a Colonels offense that won the kills battle 33-11 against the Mighty Macs.
The Colonels return to action this Sunday for a tri-match at the Marts Center. They host Bard College at noon before playing Keuka College at 4:00 p.m. The Colonels are 3-0 against Bard and 0-2 against Keuka all-time.
