Wilkes Women's Swimming: 2020 MAC Championships Day 1

YORK, PA – The Wilkes University women's swimming team began the four-day 2020 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships Thursday at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. coming away with 96 team points for eighth place after Day 1.

200 Medley Relay
The night ended with the Colonels 200 Medley Relay "A" Team consisting of Maddy Kinard (Dover, PA/Dover Area), Kyleigh Smeltzer (York, PA/Northeastern), Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove Area), and Alexa Crossgrove (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) earning a podium finish of eighth with a new school record of 1:56.76. The finish earned Wilkes 44 team points and bested a record time set back in 2016.
 
The Colonels "B" Team of Tricia Bartosh (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville), Deanna Wadzin (Sugar Notch, PA/Hanover Area), and Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville Area) placed eighth among the B teams to earn Wilkes 12 more points. They finished with a time of 2:04.63.
 
500 Freestyle
Crossgrove earned a podium finish of seventh place in the 500 Freestyle A Final. She finished with a time of 5:22.74 to earn her team 23 points. Crossgrove qualified for the eight-swimmer A Final in the morning prelim with a time of 5:24.03 to slide into eighth.
 
200 IM
Keating placed runner-up in the B Final of the 200 IM and tenth overall. Her time of 2:16.88 earned Wilkes 17 team points. The junior earned a place in the B Final by qualifying 11th in the prelim with a time of 2:18.57.
 
Other Prelims
Julia Rostron (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) set a personal-record in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:56.46.
 
Kinard and Wadzin competed in the 200 IM prelims, finishing in 2:31.38 and 2:32.06 respectively.
 
Wilkes had four swimmers compete in a field of 52 swimmers in the 50 Freestyle. Bartosh was the top Colonel finisher with a time of 27.43. Turnitza (27.51), Smeltzer (28.16), and Detweiler (29.93) rounded out the contingent.
 
Next Up
The Colonels will return to the pool at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) for Day 2 prelims of the 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, and 200 Freestyle. The Finals will begin at 6:00 p.m. for those three events plus the 200 Freestyle Relay and 400 Medley Relay.
