Wilkes Women's Swimming: 2020 MAC Championships Day 2
 
YORK, PA – The Wilkes University women's swimming team completed Day 2 action Friday at the 2020 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. The team earned three podiums and four team records on the night as the Colonels stand in eighth place after day two with 241 points.

200 Freestyle Relay
The team of Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove Area), Maddy Kinard (Dover, PA/Dover Area), Tricia Bartosh (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) and Alexa Crossgrove (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) earned a seventh place podium finish out of 13 teams in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a new team record of 1:42.89. The finish added 46 points to the Colonels team score.
 
The Colonels "B" Team of Deanna Wadzin (Sugar Notch, PA/Hanover Area), Julia Rostron (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area), Kyleigh Smeltzer (York, PA/Northeastern), and Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville Area) placed eighth in their race with a time of 1:52.12 to earn 10 more points.
 
200 Freestyle
Crossgrove earned a podium finish of sixth place in the A Final of the 200 Freestyle. She broke her own record time set earlier in the morning with a finish of 1:57.17 to earn her team 24 points. Turnitza earned Wilkes one point with an eighth-place finish in the C Final and 24th overall. She recorded a time of 2:12.21.
 
Crossgrove broke her old record of 1:59.70 to qualify for the A Final in fifth place during the prelims with a short-lived record time of 1:58.17. Turnitza took the final place in the C Final with a morning time of 2:09.75, good for 24th of the 35 swimmers.
 
400 IM
Keating landed a podium finish of eighth in the 400 IM A Final to earn Wilkes 22 points.
 
The junior placed seventh in the prelims to make the A Final with a time of 4:53.12. During her freshman season, Keating placed second in the Finals of the 400 IM to earn Second Team All-MAC honors.
 
400 Medley Relay
The team of Kinard, Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville), Keating, and Crossgrove just missed out on a podium with a ninth place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. The foursome did shatter the old school record by over nine seconds with a time of 4:13.27 to record 42 team points. Kinard also tied Keating's 100 Backstroke record leading off the relay with a 1:03.50.
 
Other Prelims
Wadzin finished 25th of 40 participants to just miss out of the C Final in the 100 Butterfly. She finished with a 1:07.22. Wadzin placed 28th in the 200 Freestyle prelims with a time of 2:10.46.
 
Next Up
The Colonels will return to the pool at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday) for Day 3 prelims of the 200 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, and the Finals of the 800 Freestyle. The night session at 6:00 p.m. will consist of the finals for the 200 Fly, 100 Back, and 100 Breast, along with the 800 Freestyle Relay.
