Wilkes Men's Swimming: 2020 MAC Championships Day 3

YORK, PA – The Wilkes University men's swimming team continued its trek through the four-day 2020 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships Saturday at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. The Colonels earned one podium and set one new team record while standing in sixth out of 13 teams after day three with 442 points.

800 Freestyle Relay
The Colonels landed on the podium in eighth place during the 800 Freestyle Relay with the team of Tyler Weatherby (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology), Justin Burda (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), Shane Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta), and Timothy Sechler-Stone (Allentown, PA/Salisbury). The foursome finished with a time of 7:34.27 for 44 team points.
 
The Colonels "B" team of Keith Nissen (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia), Cameron Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover Area), Jacob Wessner (Auburn, PA/Blue Mountain), and Liam White (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas High School) placed sixth of eight B teams during the morning with a time of 7:58.18 to earn 16 points.
 
200 Butterfly
Burda placed fifth in the B Final of the 200 Butterfly, besting his team record that he set in the morning prelims with a time of 2:02.09. The junior earned Wilkes 14 points in 13th place overall. Miller was two spots behind in the B Final to earn 12 points with a 2:04.08.
 
Burda qualified for the B Final in 12th during the morning prelims of the 200 Butterfly with a new Wilkes record time of 2:02.18 to edge out his previous record of 2:02.75 set at the MAC Championships last season. Miller also qualified into the B Final during the morning with a 2:07.42 for 16th.
 
100 Backstroke
Wessner finished seventh in the B Final of the 100 Backstroke with a time of 56.81 to earn 12 points with an overall finish of 15th. Sechler-Stone was one place behind in the race to earn 11 points with a 57.60.
 
Wessner and Sechler-Stone advanced to the B Final with morning swims of 56.43 and 56.77 respectively in the 100 Backstroke. Wessner qualified 14th and Sechler-Stone 16th.
 
100 Breaststroke
Trey Harloff (Apex, NC/Apex Friendship) earned the Colonels 16 points with a third-place finish in the B Final of the 100 Breaststroke. He finished at the wall in 1:01.28 for 11th overall. Harloff made the B Final with an 11th-place effort in the prelims with a time of 1:01.39.
 
Other Prelims
Aspey was 27th of 32 swimmers in the 100 Breaststroke as he finished in 1:08.35.
 
Time Trial
Joseph Antolick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) and Christian Mavus (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke) took part in a 50 Freestyle Time Trail during the morning session. Antolick finished in 22.26 and Mavus in 24.56.
 
Next Up
The Colonels return to the pool at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow (Sunday) for the final day of the 2020 MAC Championships. The morning will feature the prelims of the 100 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 200 Breststroke and Finals of the 1650 Freestyle. The night session will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the other Final of the 1650 Free and be followed by Finals of the 100 Free, 200 Back, and 200 Breast before the night ends with the 400 Freestyle Relay.
