Wilkes Men's Swimming: 2020 MAC Championships Day 4

YORK, PA – The Wilkes University men's swimming concluded the 2020 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships Sunday at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. Wilkes placed eighth of 13 teams with 555 team points.

The Colonels earned six podium finishes and seven new program records over the four days of the MAC Championships.

Stevens Institute of Technology won the team title with 1,519.5 points. Wilkes was only 30 points behind Misericordia for sixth and 21 points behind King's for seventh. The Colonels best team finish over the last six years since the program rebirth was a seventh-place finish in 2019.

400 Freestyle Relay
The Colonels earned an eighth-place finish to land on the podium in the 400 Freestyle Relay to close out the night and the championships. The team of Joseph Antolick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill), Keith Nissen (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia), Nick Martino (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), and Trey Harloff (Apex, NC/Apex Friendship) finished with a time of 3:17.34 to earn 44 team points.
 
The Wilkes "B" team of Tyler Weatherby (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology), Cameron Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover Area), Shane Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta), and Justin Burda (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) placed sixth of the B teams with a time of 3:24.52 to earn 16 team points.
 
200 Backstroke
Jacob Wessner (Auburn, PA/Blue Mountain) placed third in the B Final of the 200 Backstroke and 11th overall with a time of 2:04.02 to earn Wilkes 16 points. Timothy Sechler-Stone (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) was sixth in the B Final and 14th overall as he finished in 2:05.55 for 13 points.
 
Wessner set the new school record in the 200 Backstroke during the prelims with a time of 2:03.93 to qualify for the B Final in 11th place. Sechler-Stone also advanced to the B Final in 14th with a 2:05.73.
 
100 Freestyle
Antolick was eighth in the B Final of the 100 Freestyle with a finish of 49.04. He earned 16th place overall and 11 team points. Martino was eighth in the C Final with a time of 50.36. He earned 24th place overall and one team point.
 
Antolick qualified for the B Final of the 100 Freestyle in 15th with a swim of 48.67 in the morning prelims. Martino made the C Final with a morning swim of 49.91 which was good for 22nd.
 
200 Breaststroke
Sechler-Stone placed seventh in the B Final of the 200 Breaststroke to earn Wilkes 12 points. He finished 15th overall with a time of 2:17.53.
 
Sechler-Stone qualified for the B Final of the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:15.68 which was good for 14th of 34 swimmers in the prelims.
 
1650 Freestyle
Liam White (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas High School) placed 26th of 30 swimmers in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 19:08.29.
 
Other Prelims
Nissen was 26th of 45 swimmers in the 100 Freestyle prelims with a 50.59. Weatherby was 35th with a 51.80 and Christian Mavus (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke) was 43rd with a 55.64. All three Colonels finished better than their seed time.
 
Time Trial
Nissen competed in a 100 Butterfly time trial and finished with a 57.44 to better his seed time by over four seconds.
 
Next Up
The Colonels will conclude their 2019-20 season with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. From February 28 – March 1.
